One Dead After Accident Involving Hull Semi Near Meriden

Meriden, Iowa — One person is dead after an accident on Monday, August 4, 2014 near Meriden.fatal ambulance II

The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 11:55 PM, a driver was westbound on Highway 3, about a mile east of Meriden in a 1996 Plymouth. Twenty-one-year-old Joseph Meyer of Rock Valley was eastbound on 3 in a 2007 Peterbilt semi, loaded with a load of hogs. It was owned by Double M Trucking of Hull.

The trooper says that for an unknown reason, the Plymouth crossed the center line and entered the path of the semi driven by Meyer. Both vehicles entered the north ditch following the collision. The driver of the Plymouth was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the driver of the Plymouth is being withheld at this time pending notification of relatives.

Meyer did not appear to be hurt as he was not transported to a medical facility, according to the trooper’s report.
