One Injured, New Semi Tractor Totaled In Accident Near Larchwood

lyon co ambulance sideRural Larchwood, Iowa — A Valley Springs man was injured and a 2013 truck was destroyed in an accident on Tuesday near Larchwood.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 1:50 PM on Tuesday (10/15), 62-year-old Alvin Floyd Meyer of Baltic, SD was on Highway 182 north of county road A-26, three and a half miles south of Larchwood. He was driving a 2000 International semi-tractor pulling a 2009 Wilk semi-trailer, both owned by 3-D Transportation of Maurice, Iowa. Forty-seven-year-old Roy Lee Schrank of Valley Springs, SD was driving a 2013 Kenworth Dump Truck owned by Myrl and Roy’s Paving, Inc. of Sioux Falls, SD.

Meyer was northbound on Highway 182, stopped in a road construction work zone with a construction worker directing traffic. The traffic director instructed Meyer to proceed north on Highway 182. Just as Meyer began to accelerate, his vehicle was rear-ended by the Kenworth being operated by Schrank who was also northbound on Highway 182.

The 2013 Kenworth was a total loss of $125,000. The 2009 Wilk trailer received approximately $10,000 in damages.

Schrank was transported to Avera McKennan Hospital of Sioux Falls, SD by the Lyon County Ambulance.

Schrank was cited for Following Too Closely.

The Iowa State Patrol, Larchwood EMS, Larchwood Fire Department, and the Lyon County Ambulance crew assisted the Sheriff’s Department.
