Optometrist Urges Caution When Viewing Eclipse

Sheldon, Iowa — This coming Monday, August 21st, there will be a Total Solar Eclipse visible in the United States.  And a Sheldon optometrist is urging people to make sure they’re viewing the eclipse in a way that doesn’t damage their eyes.

Dr. Harlan VanderGriend, of the Eyecare Center in Sheldon, says that even with a total eclipse, you should not look directly at the sun.

Dr. VanderGriend says the safest way to view a solar eclipse is indirectly.

He talks about various other ways in which the eclipse may be viewed, but he cautions against gazing at the sun for an extended period.

Dr. VanderGriend says your eyes can be permanently damaged from looking directly at the sun.

So remember to be careful about how you view Monday’s Total Solar Eclipse, and protect your eyes…..you only get one pair.
