Osceola County Engineer Who Was Assisting Lyon County, Takes O’Brien County Engineer Position

Date posted - June 30, 2012

Primghar, Iowa — It’s kind of a fruit basket-upset in northwest Iowa when it comes to secondary road engineers.

O’Brien County has been without since Steve Struble took another position in Indianola. They’ve been sharing Sioux County’s Engineer, Doug Julius. Lyon County has been without an engineer since the termination of the contract with their former engineer, Jeff Williams a few weeks ago. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is wrapping up their investigation, and have turned over the case to Osceola County Attorney Bob Hansen to avoid a conflict of interest. In the meantime, they’ve been sharing Osceola County Engineer Tom Snyder.

This Friday, the O’Brien County Board of Supervisors decided to hire Tom Snyder to fill the O’Brien County Engineer’s position.

Lyon County Auditor Wayne Grooters says that means that Osceola County will have to hire a new engineer, and both Osceola and Lyon Counties will have to find a person or persons to serve in the interim.

O’Brien County Auditor Barb Rohwer says while they are happy to bring Snyder on board, they recognize that he will leave some shoes to fill.

Rohwer says Snyder’s initial salary will be $87,000, and his first day on the job in O’Brien County will be July 30th.
