Owl Prowl Friday Night At Oak Grove

Hawarden, Iowa — You’re invited to get up close and personal with owls this Friday night at Oak Grove Park near Hawarden.

Sunday Ford, the Education and Events Coordinator for the Sioux County Conservation Board, tells us that February is a great time for hearing owls during their courtship and egg-laying season.

She invites us to join the Sioux County Conservation Board Naturalists on Friday, February 8th for a night hike to call owls from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Park near Hawarden.

She says those who come will meet at the Oak Grove Lodge for an introduction on owls and meet a live Barred and Screech Owl. Then they’ll spend time hiking and calling for owls.

She advises those who come to dress warmly and feel free to bring a flashlight with a red covering over your light. Pre-registration is required and can be done at www.mycountyparks.com/county/sioux.aspx. If you have any questions, you can call 712/552-3057.
