Owners Of Classic Trucks Invited To Car Show In Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — Something new is in store this year at the Sheldon Celebration Days Car Show — classic trucks.

A recently-organized group of historical truck enthusiasts is speed-shifting to take advantage of invitations to display their classic big rigs during upcoming events in the region.

Chapter President Gordon Watson of Spencer of the Tri-State Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society (ATHS) tells us what’s planned.

He says you can show up that day and they’ll get you registered and get you your goodie bag.

The car and truck show on Labor Day (September 3rd) is being put on by Moonlite Crewzers of Sheldon from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sheldon High School. Bethel Reformed Church Youth Group of Sheldon will have a food stand. Shuttles are available to and from Sheldon City Park.

The truck club is actually recruiting commercial vehicle enthusiasts in northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, southeast South Dakota and northeast Nebraska to bring their rigs to several upcoming events. He says their activities have turned into “way more than we hoped to accomplish this year.” He says they had more than 80 trucks take part in the July 14th “Commercial Chaos for a Cure” Poker Run, a 120-mile route around Sioux Center that raised funds for cancer research.

As word got out about the fledgling truckers group, they were also contacted by the South Dakota Special Olympics Convoy. “The world’s largest convoy” leaders invited the chapter to hold a truck show during the event on September 21st and 22nd at the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls.
