Payloader Saved From Fire

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Sioux Center Fire Department was called out to Center Fresh Egg farm again, west of Sioux Center on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Fire Chief David Van Holland, crews at Center Fresh were using a payloader to push cardboard into a burning pit when, due to slippery conditions, the payloader slipped a little too close to the burning cardboard, and they worried that the fire might reach the machine, so the fire department was called. Van Holland says firefighters stood by during some tense moments in case the fire became an issue as the payloader was pulled out by two other payloaders. Van Holland said everything went fine, and there was no damage to the payloader.

According to Van Holland, due to biosecurity risk, cardboard has to be incinerated on-site at Center Fresh.

He says firefighters were there for about a half hour.
