Plane Crash Victims Died Of Blunt Force Trauma, Carbon Monoxide Also Present

Le Mars, Iowa — Autopsy results have been released for the four people killed last weekend when their small airplane crashed near Guthrie Center, while flying from Le Mars to southeast Iowa.

According to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office, all four of the plane’s occupants, 49-year old Ed Anderson, 36-year old Patrick Kellen, 15-year old Samantha Clark, and 28-year old Tyler Douvia died as the result of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

The autopsy reports also revealed that all four of the victims had been exposed to carbon monoxide prior to the crash.

The plane took off from the Le Mars airport on Friday, November 9th. Sometime later the aircraft reportedly contacted the Des Moines Air Traffic Control Center, stating that the pilot had suffered a heart attack, and that a student pilot was going to attempt a landing at the Guthrie Center airport. Emergency crews staged at the airport, but the plane never arrived. The wreckage of the aircraft, along with the bodies of the victims, was discovered early the next morning in a farm pasture.

The FAA is investigating the crash.
