Darwin Gaudian, who has served as O’Brien County Fair Board President for several years, has recently joined the State Fair Board. He tells us how he got started in fair administration.

Gaudian says he’s been on the Association of Iowa Fairs board for twelve years. He says like other members of the State Fair Board, he is going to continue to serve on his county fair board as well.

He says he was elected to the State Fair Board in December at the Association of Iowa Fairs Conference.

He tells us how the board members are elected.

Each district has two board members, says Gaudian. He says the other northwest Iowa member is Dave Hoffman from Le Mars, who has been on the board for a number of years.

Gaudian says he’ll probably be placed on a number committees and will work with them, plus he’ll attend monthly meetings in Des Moines.

He says he sees the opportunity to serve as an honor and a privilege.

Gaudian says he does have experience with the Iowa State Fair as he and his family have spent vacations at the fair for about the last twenty years.
