Purple Ribbons Festoon Downtown Light Poles

Sheldon, Iowa — You may have noticed purple ribbons tied on light poles downtown in Sheldon. At their Wednesday meeting, the Sheldon City Council approved a request to tie the ribbons on the poles in honor of next Tuesday’s O’Brien County Relay for Life.

In addition to the purple ribbons, there’s also a purple card on each pole, asking people to reserve the date for O’Brien County’s 2019 Relay for Life.

The event will be held Tuesday at the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center on the campus of Northwest Iowa Community College. The evening begins at 5:00pm, with the concession stand opening at 5:15. The event’s Opening Ceremony will kick-off at 6:30 Tuesday evening, with the event culminating in the Lumineria Ceremony at 8:30. Along the way there will also be a silent auction, games, music and fun throughout the evening.
