Questions Remain After Official Caucus Count

Date posted - January 20, 2012

Could it be dyslexia?

The Iowa Republican Party has certified the results of the caucuses, even though 8 precincts did not send the certification paperwork. Rick Santorum is the winner by 34 votes over Mitt Romney.

The outcome would not have changed, however, according to party officials, as these 8 precincts would only have increased Santorum’s lead.

Meanwhile, The final Buena Vista County count was 165 votes for Rick Santorum and 156 for Paul. They were the top finishers in the county. But the state had transposed the results to 165 for Paul and 156 for Santorum.

That was also part of the problem with the vote totals at the state level. BV County republicans say they re-checked their results and came up with the same numbers, so they alerted the state party leaders.

The information was corrected and included in the totals released Thursday.
