Representative Smith Announces He Won’t Seek Re-Election

Jeff SmithOkoboji, Iowa — One of the men who represent northwest Iowa in Des Moines has decided not to seek re-election.

Representative Jeff Smith, a Republican from Okoboji grew up on his family farm in Plover and attended Iowa State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Public Service and Administration in Agriculture. Besides farming, Smith also worked as a farm and commercial lender and branch manager at First Bank and Trust. Smith is not seeking re-election because he will be rejoining the private sector.

Smith says he wants to thank the voters for the opportunity to serve our great state. He says that it has truly been an honor to represent the good people of Lyon, Osceola and Dickinson Counties.

In the House, Smith is an Assistant House Majority Leader, elected by his caucus. He also serves as the Chair of the Ethics Committee and on the Administration and Rules, Commerce, Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and Rules Review Committees.

Smith will serve out the remainder of his term. He will have served Dickinson County for two terms and will have served Osceola and Lyon County for one term.
