Reward Offered In Pair Of O’Brien County Vehicle Thefts

Hartley, Iowa — The Hartley Police Department and O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a pair of incidents of vehicle theft.

According to authorities, both incidents are believe to have happened sometime between the late evening hours of July 2nd, into the early morning hours of July 3rd.

Authorities say the first incident involved the theft of a blue 2004 Chevrolet Impala from behind a business on Highway 18 in Hartley. The vehicle was located in the early morning of July 3rd after a local farmer reportedly found it abandoned on a dirt road east of Primghar.

Cops say the same farmer was the victim of a theft of his 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck earlier that morning. The pickup was reportedly taken while parked at the owner’s residence. Police say the truck was found in Duluth, Minnesota, this past Saturday, July 7th.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone with information about these crimes to contact the Sheriff’s Office with their information. Authorities say the O’Brien County Crime Dusters program is offering a $600 reward to anyone who provides information on this crime that leads to the arrest and conviction of the thief or thieves.
