Rock Rapids Man Arrested, Charged With Several Offenses After Accident Near Larchwood

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8Larchwood, Iowa — A Rock Rapids man faces several charges after an accident between Lester and Larchwood.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department about 9:55 Wednesday night, 32-year-old Samuel Meinerts of Rock Rapids reports that he was westbound on 140th Street near Coolidge Avenue — that’s two miles west of Lester, but a mile north of Highway 9. Meinerts says he was driving too fast. He tried to stop for the stop sign at the T intersection with Coolidge Avenue, but was unable to. He then lost control of the pickup. It entered the west ditch, flipped over once, and came to rest on its passenger side.

The pickup sustained approximately $6000 in damages.

Meinerts was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated 2nd offence (Aggravated Misdemeanor), Failure to Maintain Control, Failure to Obey a Stop Sign, and Failure to Maintain Financial Liability on a motor vehicle.

The Larchwood Fire Department and the Larchwood EMS assisted the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department.
