Rock Rapids Man Charged With Felony Identity Theft After Traffic Stop

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report of a possible intoxicated driver eastbound on Highway 9 near Lester on Friday, August 22. Deputies located the vehicle traveling on the wrong side of the road at 140th Street and Elmwood Avenue. A traffic stop ensued and the driver was identified as 43-year-old Jose Alfredo Vazquez Miranda of Rock Rapids. Vazquez-Miranda was subsequently arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor. He was also given citations for failure to have a valid driver’s license, failure to prove security against liability (no insurance), open container, and driving on the wrong side of the highway, all simple misdemeanors.
During the arrest deputies also learned that Mr. Vazquez Miranda allegedly gained employment illegally at a dairy operation near Rock Rapids. While still being held at the Lyon County Jail he was additionally charged with forgery and identity theft, both Class C Felonies.
