Rock Rapids Man Faces Two Felony Assault Charges After BB Gun Incident

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Rock Rapids man faces two felony counts after an incident in which an airsoft or bb gun was allegedly shot from a moving vehicle at people in Rock Rapids.

On Saturday, (9/7/13) at about 10:20 PM, two people stopped a Lyon County Deputy in front of Subway in Rock Rapids. The two stated that they had been shot by an airsoft gun.

A short time later the Deputy noticed the vehicle in question and stopped the vehicle. The driver, 30-year-old Joshua Michael Johnson of Rock Rapids and a juvenile passenger were questioned about the incident. After a short investigation with Johnson the deputy determined that Johnson was under the influence of alcohol. Johnson was arrested and charged with OWI and open container.

After a search of the vehicle the deputies found two BB guns in the vehicle. Johnson was also charged with two counts of Assault, simple misdemeanors, and two counts of Assault – willful injury causing bodily injury, class D felonies.

Johnson is being held at the Lyon County Jail, and the juvenile was released to his parents.
