Rock Rapids, Iowa — Tom Gaspar was a long time director of musicals for the Rock Rapids-based community theatre group — the River Valley Players. Gaspar passed away late last year, but the group is keeping his memory alive, as “the show must go on.”
Last November, before Gaspar passed away, he was planning on directing The Sound of Music in March. In fact, he held auditions and picked a cast for the show before his health took a turn for the worse. When his health began to decline, he asked RVP actor and friend Dave Krahling of Sioux Center to step in and direct the show. Krahling tells us about his experience.
Krahling tells us about the show.
If you are familiar with community theatre in northwest Iowa, you may recognize the names of a few of the cast members.
Those who knew Tom Gaspar, knew that he had certain sayings that he frequently used — most of them original, some borrowed from others. Krahling tells us some of his favorite Tom Gaspar memories.
Krahling says if you love kids, music, or even history, this is a show not to miss.
