Rock Rapids Utilities Looking Into Natural Gas Agreement With Lester, Larchwood

Rock Rapids, Iowa — One Lyon County town is looking into an agreement with two other county towns in regard to natural gas service.

The City of Rock Rapids Municipal Utilities has provided natural gas service to its customers for several years. Utilities Manager Jim Hoye says they’re looking into working with two other towns who don’t provide natural gas forgas blue flame burner their customers — Lester, and Larchwood.

Hoye says it’s not known yet how this would look — whether it would be a situation in which Rock Rapids buys the gas and serves the other two towns, or what would be the most feasible.

Hoye says the benefit to Rock Rapids customers could be lower prices if it would happen to work out. He says they hope it could work out similarly to their agreement with Lyon & Sioux Rural Water.

He says they hope to have the results of the study back in six months, and then they can begin the decision process, and if it works out, they can start planning.
