Rock Valley Man Injured In Accident Near Rock Valley

A Rock Valley man was injured in an accident on Friday near Rock Valley.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 3:40 that afternoon, 32-year-old Lance Rus of Rock Valley parked a 2006 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer on Elmwood Avenue, two miles north of Rock Valley, facing north. Seventy-four-year-old Walter Groeneweg of Rock Valley was driving a 2010 Chevrolet pickup northbound on Elmwood Avenue. and struck the parked semi-trailer.

Groeneweg was transported to Hegg Memorial Hospital by the Rock Valley Ambulance.

The semi-trailer sustained about $4,500 in damages. Groeneweg’s vehicle sustained about $28,000 in damages and is a complete loss.

Rus was cited for parking on the roadway.

The Iowa State Patrol, the Rock Valley Ambulance Crew and the Rock Valley Fire Department assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
