Rock Valley PD Wins Area Law Enforcement Fundraising Campaign For Camp Autumn

Northwest Iowa — April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, and this year, northwest Iowa law enforcement officers raised $625 for Camp Autumn in the Cops for Camp Campaign.

Ten law enforcement agencies participated in the Cops for Camp Campaign, which has successfully funded a scholarship for an incoming camper to attend one week at Camp Autumn. Participating law enforcement agencies included: Osceola County Sheriff, Lake Park Police Department, Estherville Police Department, Armstrong Police Department, Sioux County Sheriff, Rock Valley Police Department, O’Brien County Sheriff, Sheldon Police Department, Clay County Sheriff, and Spencer Police Department, according to a release from Seasons Center.

The winning agency, Rock Valley Police Department, raised $330 and were awarded the traveling Cops for Camp “canoe paddle” trophy for their efforts.

Rock Valley Police Chief Monte Warburton tells us how his department came to be involved in the Cops for Camp Campaign.

Chief Warburton talks about how his department raised the $330 they contributed to the campaign.

The Chief says this campaign came at the “right time” for his officers.

He says children hold a special place in the hearts of law enforcement officers.

Camp Autumn is a therapeutic day camp for children ages 4 to 21, located in O’Brien County. Services began at Camp Autumn on June 5, 2017, with nearly 150 children participating in the first nine weeks of summer day camp sessions and over 300 children served in 2017 through day camps and various events throughout the year.
