Rock Valley Teen Injured In Accident Near Sioux Center

Sioux Center, Iowa — On Friday, November 16 at 3:30 p.m., The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on 360th Street, two and one half miles northwest of Sioux Center.

Dylan De Jong, age 15, of Rock Valley, IA was driving a 1970 Chevrolet pickup westbound on 360th Street approaching the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad crossing. De Jong reported a malfunction in the steering mechanism, causing the vehicle to enter the north ditch where it struck the railroad tracks and then rolled onto its side.

De Jong reported minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to the Sioux Center Hospital.

The Chevrolet sustained approximately $5,000 in damages.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the BNSF Railroad Inspection Division.
