Sanford helicopter new in 2012Rock Valley, Iowa — A Rock Valley woman was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital after an accident on Thursday that has just now been reported.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 6 AM, 37-year-old Pamela Dorhout of Rock Valley was driving a 2002 Buick LeSabre eastbound on 270th Street — the county line road — four miles northwest of Rock Valley. Twenty-six-year-old Travis Ten Haken of Rock Valley was driving a 2008 Ford F-350 pickup westbound on 270th Street.

As the two met each other, Dorhout swerved to the right, lost control, crossed both lanes of traffic and entered the north ditch where her vehicle rolled.

Dorhout required extrication from her vehicle by the Rock Valley Fire Department and was transported to Hegg Memorial Hospital by the Rock Valley Ambulance. She was later transported by helicopter to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

The Buick sustained about $5,000 in damages. Ten Haken’s vehicle did not sustain any damage.

Dorhout was cited for failure to maintain control.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Rock Valley Police Department, Rock Valley Fire Department, and the Rock Valley Ambulance Team.
