Rushmore, MN Woman Dies In Crash Near Kenneth, MN

Kenneth, Minnesota — A Rushmore, Minnesota woman has died in a crash near Kenneth, Minnesota.Fatal Crash 2

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 1:50 pm on Monday, August 04, 2014, 26-year-old Ashley Von Holtum of Rushmore was northbound in a on County Road 3 in a Chevrolet S-10 Crew Cab pickup, about a mile and a half south of Kenneth, or about seven miles northeast of Luverne.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that there was an unmanned, controlled burn being conducted about a half mile north of County Road 8 on County Road 3. The wind had picked up and shifted, causing smoke to cross over the roadway.

Von Holtum rear ended a gravel side-dump truck owned by Russell Knutson of Magnolia. The dump truck was being driven by 65-year-old Gary Akkerman of Luverne.

Fire and Rescue crews had to extract Von Holtum from the vehicle where she was airlifted by Sanford Air Med and transported to Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Von Holtum was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Von Holtum was wearing her seatbelt. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Akkerman was not injured.

The Rock County Ambulance crew; Sanford Air Med; fire departments from Kenneth, Magnolia, and Luverne; and the Minnesota State Patrol assisted the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.
