Ruthven Man Gets Suspended 5-Year Prison Term, RTF Stay for Church Burglary in Hartley
Date posted - July 31, 2012
Sheldon, Iowa — A Ruthven, Iowa teen has been sentenced after he pled guilty to breaking into a church in Hartley — and getting away with $30 and a bag of candy.
O’Brien County Attorney, Micah J. Schreurs says that in September of 2011, 19-year-old Kyle Patrick Frederick broke into the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley. After gaining entry to the church, he stole $30.00 and a bag of candy.
Frederick pled guilty to Burglary in the Third Degree, a class D felony, and was required to pay a fine of $750.00, plus various court costs and surcharges. Mr. Frederick was also sentenced to an indeterminate five-year prison term, which was suspended. He will serve two years’ probation, and, as a condition of that probation, was committed to the Residential Treatment Facility in Sheldon. Frederick was ordered to pay nearly $1400 in restitution to the church for the damage caused by the burglary and for the items that were removed from the church.
The Hartley Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
