Safety First, Then The 4th

Date posted - July 1, 2016

Vince Kurtz ISPNorthwest Iowa — The Independence Day holiday weekend is upon us, and with it comes the launch of a safety enforcement campaign by the Iowa State Patrol.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz talks about the Patrol’s “Safety First, Then The 4th” campaign.

The trooper reminds motorists who are towing campers, boat, and the like, to allow extra following distance, since the added weight of your trailer will increase the distance needed to come to a stop.

In addition, the trooper says motorists and motorcycle riders need to watch out for each other, to avoid collisions.  And, he says, if your celebration involves alcohol, plan ahead and choose a designated driver.

Trooper Kurtz says the Patrol, along with numerous other city and county law enforcement, will be out in force this weekend to help insure a safe and happy 4th of July.
