Northwest Iowa — The Independence Day holiday weekend is just a few short days away, and there are some things you need to think about before putting your boat in the water this weekend, or any other weekend.
Iowa DNR Boating Law Administrator and Education Coordinator Susan Stocker say, first and foremost, don’t forget the life jackets.
Stocker says sometimes fishermen don’t think of themselves as boaters, but if you’re fishing from a boat, you need a life jacket.
She says it’s also extremely important that you use the correct size life jacket.
Stocker says it’s also important not to put more people on your boat than it’s designed to handle.
Stocker reminds you to make sure the driver of the boat is sober, just as you would the driver of your car.
