Sanborn, Iowa — The City of Sanborn has a new mayor. City Councilman Randy Lyman has been appointed to the position.
We talked to Sanborn City Administrator Jim Zeutenhorst. He says the appointment happened at Monday night’s Sanborn City Council meeting.
Zeutenhorst tells us that Lyman had been serving as Sanborn’s Mayor Pro Tempore and acting mayor since the resignation of former mayor Duane Van Veldhuizen last month.
According to Zeutenhorst, Mayor Lyman asked the other councilmembers at Monday’s meeting if they were interested in serving as mayor. When no one indicated that they were, Lyman volunteered to be appointed. Lyman will serve the remainder of the Mayor’s term, which is set to expire this fall, says Zeutenhorst.
He says that with Lyman taking the mayor’s chair, Lyman’s city council position is now open.
In other business at the Sanborn City Council meeting, Zeutenhorst says the topic of what to do about the Archer Ambulance situation came up again. He says they’re waiting for the Sheldon City Attorney to write something up so they can vote on it. He tells us that as part of the process they are also thinking about making some changes to the map to cut response times when an address comes up in their territory that’s actually closer to another town.

Sanborn, Iowa — Sanborn City Administrator Jim Zeutenhorst has confirmed to KIWA that Sanborn’s City Clerk, Peggy Japenga, and her father, Mayor Duane Van Veldhuizen resigned this past Friday.
Zeutenhorst declined further comment, except to suggest that we talk to the City’s Attorney, Harold Dawson.
Dawson also confirmed that the pair had resigned, but declined to comment further.

Sanborn, Iowa — Sanborn’s Mayor and City Clerk have both resigned their positions with the City.
According to sources in Sanborn, Mayor Duane Van Veldhuizen and City Clerk Peggy Japenga both resigned this past Friday, January 11th. Van Veldhuizen and Japenga are father and daughter.
No further information is available at this time.
