Sanborn, Iowa — Due to a water main break, the Sanborn Water Department is advising residents to boil water before using it for drinking, or to use an alternate water source, such as bottled water.

According to a release from the City of Sanborn, residents in that community are advised to bring tap water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, then let it cool before using, or to utilize bottled water. Officials say bottled or boiled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice. They say the water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes.

If you’d like more information, you’re encouraged to call Sanborn’s Water Superintendent, Chris Schoneman, at 712-930-3842. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline, at 800-426-4791.

Sanborn officials say the boil advisory is a precaution until bacterial samples are available. They Say Sanborn residents will be notified when those results are available, and when the advisory is lifted.

Sanborn’s Water System is working with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to resolve the situation.
