Sanborn Woman Dies In Monday Spencer Accident

Spencer, Iowa — A Sanborn woman has died after an accident in Spencer.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reports that shortly after 5 PM Monday (6/11), 63-year-old Leola Van Ravenswaay of Sanborn was eastbound on Highway 18 at the north end of Spencer. Christopher Byerhelm of Waukee, Iowa was southbound on Highway 71.
Vanravenswaay entered the intersection of Highway 71 into the path of the Beyerhelm vehicle.
Deputies located Van Ravenswaay, trapped and unresponsive in her vehicle. Vanravenswaay was extricated from her vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene.
Beyerhelm received minor cuts and bruises and was released from the scene. A passenger in Beyerhelm’s vehicle, Kent Allen of Altoona, Iowa, was transported to the Spencer Hospital for observation and was later released.
The Iowa State Patrol, Spencer Police Department, Fostoria Fire and Rescue, Spencer Fire and Rescue and Spencer Ambulance and Paramedics assisted the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
