Sheldon, Iowa — SCDC officials say they have been in contact with the City of Rock Valley, and that the situation is coming under control at this time, and no more volunteers are needed. As a result, the SCDC is suspending their volunteer shuttle service, and will be sending no more volunteers to Rock Valley this afternoon.
Rock Valley officials extend their appreciation to all those who were willing to volunteer to help their citizens.
There is a volunteer effort underway by the Sheldon SCDC to send workers to Rock Valley to assist residents there who are sandbagging.
If you are interested in volunteering to sandbag please call the SCDC at 712 324 2813. All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes and long pants. Transportation will be provided. The first group will leave from the Sheldon Community Building at 1:00 pm.
Check in will be at the Trinity Reformed Church in Rock Valley.

The Sheldon Chamber and Development Corporation (SCDC) is in the process of organizing a relief effort to assist the citizens of Rock Valley who are currently battling flood waters caused by Monday’s storms. SCDC Executive Director Curt Strouth says the organization is currently recruiting busloads of volunteers to travel to Rock Valley this afternoon to assist in the relief efforts.
Strouth says anyone who wants to take part in this relief effort should contact the SCDC Office at 712-324-2813 for more information.
