School Board Sets Salary Guidelines, Job Description For Tech Coordinator

Sheldon-Schools-logoSheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Community Schools are in the process of recruiting a Tech Coordinator for the school system.  Previously the District has contracted with R&D Industries of Milford for maintaining, repairing, and upgrading the District’s information technology infrastructure.  Within the last few months, however, the School Board decided it would be more feasible, and economical, to hire a full-time Tech Coordinator for the Sheldon Community School District.

The District is one step closer to making the Tech Coordinator position a reality, after their meeting Wednesday night.  The Board approved a Job Description, which is available to view by clicking here.  The Board also approved a minimum salary for the new position.  They set the minimum salary at $48-thousand a year.  The Board also left the final salary to the discretion of the Superintendent, and will be based upon the applicant’s qualifications for the position.

In other business at Wednesday evening’s meeting, the Board accepted five open enrollment applications, three of these are students who will be open enrolling from the Sheldon District to the South O’Brien District, one leaving the Sheldon District to go to Sibley-Ocheyedan, and one open enrolling into the Sheldon District from Sibley-Ocheyedan.  The Board accepted the resignation of Samantha Klatt from her associate position, and Julie Becker from her food service position.  They also approved the hiring of Amanda Lalk as Special Education Instructional Associate for the Middle School, at a rate of $9.50 per hour, for a 6-hour work day, and Donna Hurd as Special Education Instructional Associate at the High School at a rate of $9.50 per hour for a 6-hour work day.

The School Board also approved the Regular Bus Routes for the 2016-17 School Year, which can be viewed by clicking here.  The Board also approved the transportation of preschool students for St. Patrick’s School, Children’s World, Noah’s Ark, and Sheldon Christian Schools, along with approving a request by the Dance Team to be allowed to travel to, and participate in the Just For Kix Outback Bowl Performance Tour through the Just For Kix Dance Company in Florida.

The Board also approved several equipment purchases at Wednesday’s meeting.  They include:  4 additional copiers at a total cost of $28,632; a pair of 2015 Chevrolet Suburbans, to replace two aging school vehicles, at a total cost of $94,300; a new van for the Food Service Program, at a total of $31,245; and the purchase of 20 new lunch room tables for East Elementary at a total cost of $21,500.

In other action, the Board approved the addition of a Digital Publications Course for students working on the Sheldon Yearbook.
