life preserversStorm Lake, Iowa — The body of the Ireton man who drowned in Storm Lake has been found after a search that began on the fourth of July.

At about 4 PM on Thursday the 4th (7/4/13), the Buena Vista County 911 Center received a call reporting a capsized boat on Storm Lake, due south of Kings Pointe Resort near Sunrise Park Road.

The capsized boat had had two occupants. One of them, 36-year-old Abel Troncoso of Granville, was rescued by another boat that was in the immediate area. The other occupant of the boat, 28-year-old Jaime Vazquez of Ireton slipped beneath the water. Authorities immediately started a search.

Vazquez was reportedly not wearing a life vest at the time he slipped beneath the water.

According to the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office, at about 3:15 AM Sunday morning (7/7/13), Vazquez’s body was recovered from Storm Lake. The body was located along the north shore of Storm Lake, east of Kings Pointe.

The body was transported by the Buena Vista County Medical Examiner’s Office to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Ankeny for an autopsy.

Search efforts had been greatly hampered by high winds and rough water conditions. Divers were able to work only for a few hours at a time.

Several area dive teams and emergency personnel were involved in the search, including the Plymouth County Dive Team, Sioux County Dive Team, and the Denison Fire Department Divers.
