September Much Wetter Than Normal

Sheldon, Iowa — It was just a little warmer but much wetter compared to an average September here in Northwest Iowa.

According to the official precipitation total at KIWA Weather Center, Sheldon received 9.42 inches of measurable precipitation for the month of September. Normally, Sheldon receives just 3.05 inches of precipitation for the month. September of 2017 we received just 3.15 inches of precipitation, but in September 2016, the weather was wetter than this past year at 9.7 inches of total precipitation for the month.

Temperature-wise for Sheldon, the normal high for September is 74 while the normal low is 49. For September 2018, we saw an average high of 74, but the average low was warmer by 5 degrees, at 54. Last year in Sheldon, the average high was 75 and the average low was 52.

October 2018 has started out a bit cooler than the average, while the 6-10 day outlook has Northwest Iowa at below normal temperatures, and above normal precipitation.
