Seven Transported To Hospitals Following Accident

Boyden, Iowa — Seven people were transported to hospitals as the result of an accident near Boyden on Monday morning, August 31st.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 7:45 AM, 59-year-old Liela Moret of Boyden was driving a 2013 Buick Enclave southbound on Jefferson Avenue, a mile northwest of Boyden. Thirty-eight-year-old Nichole Bomgaars of Boyden was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Suburban eastbound on 310th Street.

The Sheriff’s Office says the vehicles met in the intersection with Bomgaars striking the Moret vehicle. After impact, both vehicles entered the southeast ditch where the Buick came to rest and the Chevrolet rolled into a farm field, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Bomgaars and five children inside the vehicle were transported by the Boyden Ambulance, Sheldon Ambulance and private vehicle to Sanford Sheldon Hospital. Moret was also transported by the Hull Ambulance to Sanford Sheldon.

The Buick sustained about $15,000 in damages. The Chevrolet sustained an estimated $20,000 in damages.

Bomgaars was cited on a charge of failure to obey yield sign and failure to secure child under 18 in vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Boyden Fire Department, the ambulance teams from Boyden, Sheldon, and Hull; and the Iowa State Patrol assisted on the scene.
