Sheldon Area Preschoolers Can Receive Free Books Through Local Organizations, Dolly Parton

Date posted - January 20, 2012

Pre-school kids in the Sheldon School district are in line to receive the gift of reading.

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is coming to Sheldon. Jessica Brink tells us about the program, in which kids receive a free book every month in the mail.

Brink tells us how they heard about the program.

She says the program is free to the kids and parents, and if they’re in it from birth to age 5, they get 60 age-appropriate books from the program, completely for free. Brink says Dolly Parton’s organization sees to it that the cost to the non-profit sponsors is quite reasonable as well. Again, those sponsors are Prairie Queen Kiwanis and the Prairie Arts Council. She says they try to get each book to each child for $2. For now, the children have to live in the zip code area of Sheldon, Archer, Ashton, or Matlock. Brink does say they’re interested in expanding though, so if you want to help them get it going in another community, you can contact her.

There’s a special kick-off for the program happening this Saturday at 10 AM at the Sheldon Public Library, she says.

Brink says you can sign your child up at the program or after the program. The first 80 children at the program will receive their book there. Otherwise it will be mailed to them.

For more info, you can email Brink at or call her at 712-314-3164. Again, that’s not 324, but 314-3164.
