Sheldon Band Takes Marching Honors Saturday
Date posted - October 14, 2013
Sheldon, Iowa — It was a day of not one marching band competition, but two for the Sheldon High School Marching Band, and they took high honors in both. Band Director Cliff St. Clair says that not only was it the State Marching Band Festival on Saturday (October 12th), there was also a contest in Orange City.
St. Clair tells us about the first event of the day.
He says that in the state festival, bands are given a rating, but are not placed against each other. He says the Sheldon Band got a “Division 1”.
After the honors on their home field, the Sheldon Marching Band picked up all their instruments and equipment and headed to Orange City for the Dutchmen Field Championships. Mr. St. Clair says the Orab Band did very well there too and placed first in their class.
He says there were seven bands in their class, but they have a friendly rivalry going with Sibley-Ocheyedan.
Mr. St. Clair says in fact, Sibley-Ocheyedan usually edges Sheldon out to second or third, but this year Sheldon came out on top. He said it was a “good milestone”.
Sheldon also took the 2A Gaurd Award and had the best 2A Field Conductor.
