Sheldon City Council Approves Budget
Date posted - February 16, 2012
The Sheldon City Council approved the city’s budget for the coming fiscal year after there were no comments or questions during a public hearing held during Wednesday’s meeting.
Another public hearing was held concerning property owners who have not completed the work required to make sidewalk repairs. The only comment and questions came from William Staples who said he wanted to do the work himself, and had some questions about how he needed to comply with the American Disabilities Act. City Manager Scott Wynja told Staples that e would provide him with that information. He also said that if Staples completes his repairs before the City’s contractor starts their work, the city would only charge him for some of the engineering fees that have already been incurred.
Wynja said that there are about five or six property owners who have completed the required work. They too may be required to pay some of the engineers fees because they did not get the work done in time.
The Council discussed the proposed Golf Cart ordinance, making some amendments before passing it on to its third reading. The amendments include allowing golf carts to operate on second avenue, deleting the need for headlamps and tail lights and require the same permit process as is used for the operation of ATV’s in the city.
And, they approved the acceptance of bids from Mel Norem Construction for the rehabilitation of property in the Sheldon Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program. The city has received $300,000 which will be used for the rehabilitation of ten or eleven homes.
