Two new members of the Sheldon City Council will be in their seats when the Council holds their first meeting of the new year this Thursday, January 2nd. Zach Sawyer and Randy Fonkert were elected to the council in the November election, replacing Dave Popkes and Duane Seehusen. This will also be the first meeting for Angela Beckman as the new City Clerk, although she has attended some meetings in the past as Deputy Clerk. The council has a rather light agenda for their meeting. This includes such items as designating official newspapers for 2014. For the past few years they have named the Sheldon Mail-Sun, Northwest Iowa Review and the Sioux City Journal. This gives the City a choice of publication dates to best fit the time requirements for certain notices and reports. The council will also consider an applicant for the fire department and consider the resignation of Steve Drenkow from the Airport Commission and consider the appointment of his replacement.
In other business the council will consider a pay estimate for the Sheldon Crossing improvements and discuss the date and purpose of an upcoming goal setting session. This has been set for Tuesday February 4th at 11:30 a.m. It will be led by Jeff Schott who is with the University of Iowa Institute of Public Affairs.
Thursday’s meeting begins at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
