UPDATE: Sheldon Community Schools New Superintendent Announced

Sheldon, Iowa — At a noontime meeting Thursday the Sheldon Community Schools Board of Education met in closed session for final deliberations on the new school superintendent.

Following the approximately 45-minute closed session, the Board went back into open session, and voted to hire a new superintendent to replace Robin Spears, who will be retiring at the end of June.

During the open session, (which can be viewed below) Susan Rensink made a motion that the Board hire Cory Myer as the next Superintendent of the Sheldon Community School District. That motion was seconded by Board member Jessica Brink. The motion passed unanimously on a roll-call vote.

Mr. Myer, who is currently superintendent in the North Iowa Community School District, will begin his duties in Sheldon on July 1st of this year, and will be paid an annual salary of $153,500.

According to the School Board, Myer had verbally accepted the offer earlier today, and all that remains is for him to actually sign the physical contract.

The original candidate pool for the position included 19 completed applications. Six of those has seven or more years of superintendent experience; the pool also included four candidates with an EdD or PhD degree.

Three finalists were identified after a thorough vetting process by the school board and Grundmeyer Leader Search Consultants. The three finalists interviewed with over 60 different community and district patrons on Tuesday of this week. The Board says feedback from the formal interview teams, and their time with Myer convinced them that he was the best fit for the District’s required qualifications.

Myer’s employment contract is for a 24-month term, and begins on July 1st of this year and run through June 30, 2020.

The Board says Myer will bring a wife, Libby, and middle school-aged daughter, Alayna, to the district. He has two older children, Naddie, who will a freshman at Morningside College this coming fall, and son Zach, who residesa in Okoboji with his wife, Sierra, and two-year old Nikolas.

The Board says Myer will be transitioning with retiring superintendent Robin Spears between now and officially beginning his contract July 1st.
