Sheldon Council To Discuss Lots, Events Center

Sheldon, Iowa — The sale of lots in the Sunshine Addition, the proposed events center and a new hangar at the airport are on the agenda for the Sheldon City Council when they meet at noon Wednesday, August 5th.

City Manager Scott Wynja tells KIWA that the city has received two offers to purchase lots in the Sunshine Addition. These offers are the result of the decision to create more housing by offering the unsold lots in this addition for one dollar each. Buyers of these lots must agree to several stipulations. One of those is the requirement that construction must begin within twelve months of the date of purchase and be completed within 24 months of the purchase date. If these dates are not met the property would be subject to a two hundred thousand dollar minimum assessment.

The Council will also consider the engineering agreement for the hangar project at the airport. This project would be the construction of a new hangar to replace the one that was destroyed by a recent wind storm.

Also, the council will continue their discussion on the preliminary design for the proposed events center. This will include a look at the cost estimates for the project which have been received by the city. They will also talk about financing options, including how much they are willing to pay out of city funds.

Wednesday’s meeting begins at noon in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
