Sheldon Emergency Crews Called To Pickup Versus Bicycle Accident On Friday

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon emergency crews responded to the report of a pickup versus bicycle accident about 6 PM Friday evening.

The injury accident was on Nettle Avenue or L36, just over three miles south of Highway 18. Nettle Avenue is the county road a half mile east of the Highway 60 expressway. The bicyclist was transported to Sanford Sheldon by SCAT.

SCAT, The Sheldon Fire Company, Sheldon Emergency Management and O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident.

We’ll have the details when they are available from the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.

    Drivers need to provide enough space when passing a bicycles. Slow down and move into the opposite lane. I cannot count the number of close calls I have had.

    I agree. Traffic needs to slow, look, and enought texting. I have put on a lot of miles and have seen to many people not looking and texting on there phone. Let’s all be safe out there and enjoy the space. Jeff

    Has there been any follow up to this? Is the bicyclist okay? What about the driver of the pick up?

    Editor’s note: HIPAA (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Rules) does not allow hospital officials to release patient information. Reports from the scene indicated only the bicyclist was transported to the hospital.
