Sheldon “Firemen’s Fun Night” Is This Thursday

Sheldon, Iowa — This is National Fire Prevention Week and the Sheldon Fire Company is observing the week with some special events.

This Thursday evening will be the annual “Firemen’s Fun Night,” with multiple activities available. Assistant Fire Chief Brad Hind talks about Thursday night’s activities.

For the past several years “Firemen’s Fun Night” has included an open swim activity. Hindt says the open swim is not included this year, for a very good reason.

He says this year’s “Firemen’s Fun Night” movie is a family-friendly animated film.

Hindt says the funds from this year’s “Firemen’s Fun Night” will be used to purchase portable radios to improve communications when on a fire scene.

“Firemen’s Fun Night” gets a lot of attention each year, but Sheldon firefighters have also been visiting the local schools this week.

Hindt says the firefighters have also been teaching the kids about Operation E.D.I.T.H., which stands for Exit Drills In The Home. He says Thursday evening, families are going to have an opportunity to practice their Operation E.D.I.T.H. plans.

If you want to attend any “Firemen’s Fun Night” activities this Thursday night, tickets will be available at the door, and are available for a free-will offering.

National Fire Prevention Week runs through this Saturday, October 12th, and Hindt reminds you that this is a perfect time to replace the batteries in your home’s smoke detectors, and make sure they are all functional.
