Sheldon Man Injured In Accident That Killed Algona Man

A Sheldon man was injured in an accident that killed an Algona Man near Cylinder, Iowa Monday morning (3/5).
The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 7:40 AM, 47-year-old Ronnie William Menneke of Algona was westbound on Highway 18 near Cylinder. For an unknown reason, his vehicle crossed the centerline, causing a head-on collision with an eastbound 2010 Freightliner driven by 39-year-old Craig Mitchell Klatt of Sheldon.
Menneke was pronounced dead at the scene. Klatt was transported to the Emmetsburg Hospital by the Palo Alto County Ambulance. He was treated and released.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Department, Palo Alto County Medics, Emmetsburg Fire Department, Cylinder Fire Department and the Iowa Department of Transportation assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the scene.
The patrol is still investigating the accident.
