Sheldon Man Taken To Hospital After Accident In Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man was transported to the hospital after an accident on Wednesday (9/19) in Sheldon.
The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 11:35 AM, 61-year-old Dean Sievert of Sheldon was northbound on Second Avenue, in a 2001 Ford. Twenty-nine-year-old Justin Cook of Spencer was also northbound on also on Second Avenue in a 2006 International semi.
Cook had stopped his semi for the stop sign at the intersection of Second Avenue and Highway 18. Cook was in the inside lane, intending to make a right turn onto Highway 18. Sievert stated that he pulled into the outside lane, just to the right of Cook. Sievert stated that he did not see a turn signal on the semi trailer. Both vehicles made a right turn, and the semi trailer went over the back of the Sievert car. Cook stated that he did not know that he had run into Sievert’s car, and continued eastbound onto Highway 18 until a witness flagged him down.
Sievert was transported to Sanford Sheldon by SCAT.
Sievert’s Ford was totaled with $3000 damage. The semi, owned by L J LeClair Farm of Spencer was not damaged.
No charges were filed.
