Sheldon Named #1 Best Place To Retire In Iowa

New-Sheldon-SignSheldon, Iowa — Sheldon has been named the #1 Best Town In Iowa To Retire, by a website called “Niche”.  The website ranks towns by certain key factors, including the number of residents 65 and over, monthly housing cost, crime rates, median effective property tax, weather, access to golf, access to doctors, access to grocery stores, access to libraries, access to recreation and fitness facilities, and access to restaurants.

Sheldon took the top spot in the rankings, with another northwest Iowa town taking number 2.  Cherokee came in at number 2 due to a little lower score for safety than Sheldon.

Other Iowa towns in the Top 10 include Charles City at number 3, Shenendoah number 4, Algona reached number 5, Carroll number 6, Iowa Falls 7th, Decorah 8th, Winterset 9th, and Centerville 10th, according to “Niche”.

Other area towns that made the “Niche Top 25”, but didn’t crack the Top Ten, were Storm Lake at 12, Spencer at 14, and Le Mars at 21.
