Sheldon PD Investigate Theft Of $680 In Cash, Handle Two Accidents

Sheldon PD carSheldon, Iowa — In the latest from the Sheldon Police Department:

Sheldon Police are investigating a case of cash being stolen from an address on North Seventh Avenue. The report came from someone who lives on North Washington Avenue. There was no forced entry, but $680 in twenty-dollar bills was believed to have been stolen sometime on Friday, November 29th. The report was called in on Wednesday, December 4th.


A Sioux Center man’s car and a Sheldon man’s pickup were damaged in an accident on Wednesday, December 4th in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 12:40 PM, 31-year-old Eric DeVos of Sioux Center was northbound on Second Avenue or Business 60, in a 2003 Pontiac. Forty-three-year-old Gregory Poppema of Sheldon was eastbound on Bomgaars’ driveway in a 2013 Ford pickup.

Poppema pulled out and struck the DeVos Pontiac in the driver’s door.

DeVos’s Pontiac received $2000 damage. Poppema’s Ford pickup received $3000 damage.

There were no injuries reported.

Poppema was ticketed for Unsafe Entry.


A Sheldon woman’s car and a Maurice woman’s car were damaged in an accident on Wednesday, December 4 in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 4:05 PM, 51-year-old Lynn Schimmer of Sheldon was westbound on Highway 18 in a 2003 Buick. Fifty-nine-year-old Linda Top of Maurice was eastbound on 18 in a 2006 Buick.

Schimmer had slowed down to turn south onto Third Avenue, and turned into the path of the oncoming Top vehicle. Top was unable to stop in time, and the vehicles collided.

Schimmer’s Buick received $2600 damage. Top’s Buick received $1500 damage.

There were no injuries reported.

Schimmer was ticketed for Failure To Yield On Left Turn.
