Sheldon PD: 6 Arrests, 13 Charges & Warrants, Less Than 24 Hours

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon Police had a busy twenty-four hours late this week.

According to Sheldon Police Chief Scott Burtch, it all started shortly before 2:30 Thursday afternoon when they arrested 57-year-old Mark Muhlbauer on four counts of 5th Degree Theft. Less than 20 minutes later, they arrested 38-year-old Jonathon Koerselman on an O’Brien County Mittimus warrant. Then, about 4:20 Thursday afternoon, Burtch says his officers arrested 57-year-old Roy Persson on warrants from O’Brien County.

And things didn’t slow down Friday for the Handcuff Taxi from Sheldon to Primghar.

At approximately 8:00 o’clock Friday morning, Chief Burtch says an assault was reported to the Sheldon Police Department.  A 50-yea-old male victim had visible injuries and, according to Burtch, reported he was assaulted with a crowbar, and identified his attacker as Sheila Sundall.

According to Chief Burtch, at approximately 8:30 am the Sheldon Police Department and O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office responded to 425 W 7th Street to investigate the alleged assault and to try and locate the suspect.  After getting permission to search the residence for the suspect, Burtch says Melea Speelmon was located hiding in the residence.  He says Speelmon was found to have an active O’Brien County arrest warrant.  While searching the residence, Officers and Deputies saw drug paraphernalia in plain view, according to Burtch.  He says a search warrant was requested and granted for the residence.  Sheldon Police Officers and O’Brien County Deputies executed the search warrant resulting in the arrest of 41-year-old Nathan Schuknecht for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.  29-year-old Melea Speelmon was arrested on the active warrant, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.

At approximately 9:45 am,  while O’Brien County Deputies were watching the residence, they noticed 40-year-old Sheila Sundall return.  Burtch says she was arrested for assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of contraband in a correctional facility. The assault charge and the drug paraphernalia charge are both misdemeanors, while possession of contraband in a correctional facility is a Class D Felony.

So, in that less than 24-hour time period, Sheldon Police hauled six individuals to the O’Brien County Jail, on a combination of 13 criminal charges and outstanding arrest warrants.
