Sheldon Police Arrest Two, Cover Two Accidents, Take Theft Report

Sheldon, Iowa — In the latest from the Sheldon Police,

On Saturday (11/17), the police arrested 26-year-old Kelvin Rodriguez of Alton on charges of driving while suspended and Dark Windows. He was taken into custody and transported to jail.

On Monday (11/19), they arrested 30-year-old David Nachtigal of Sheldon on an O’Brien County warrant for Fifth Degree Theft. He was also taken into custody and transported to jail.

On Saturday, someone on North Fifth Avenue reported that while they were parked on the 900 block of Third Avenue, someone stole their wallet. The wallet and contents were valued at $950.
A Boyden man’s pickup was damaged in an accident on Friday (11/16) in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 12:20 PM, 73-year-old Leroy Lonning of Sioux Falls was northbound on Western Avenue, in a 2005 Volvo Semi. Twenty-nine-year-old Craig Van Meetern of Boyden was also northbound on Western behind the semi in a 2009 Ford pickup.

The semi stopped for the stop sign on Highway 18, then proceeded to back up to give another semi room to make a turn south, and in the process, struck the pickup. Van Meetern saw the semi backing up and attempted to back up too, to avoid being hit, but was unable to move his vehicle in time.

Van Meetern’s Ford pickup received $2400 damage. The semi was not damaged.

There were no injuries reported.
An Alton Woman’s car and a Hartley woman’s car were damaged in an accident on Monday (11/19) in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 11:05 AM, 77-year-old Marie Klein of Alton was eastbound on Highway 18, in a 2005 Toyota. Eighty-eight-year-old Dorothy Hein of Hartley was westbound on 18 in a 2002 Buick.

Klein attempted a left turn into the west Hy-Vee entrance. Hein struck the Klien vehicle as it was turning. Klein stated she didn’t see the Hein vehicle. The report says she turned from the traveling lane, not the turning lane.

Klein’s Toyota received $2000 damage. Hein’s Buick received $1500 damage.
