Sheldon Police Cover Two Burglaries, Two Accidents

The Police say they took a report of somebody stealing a credit card from a parked car at a home in the 1000 block of Eleventh Avenue on Wednesday (8/28/13).  It happened Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.  Someone used the card to make a purchase in the amount of $500.  Also stolen were $25 worth of blank checks.  The police are investigating.

The Sheldon Police also took a report of burglary at a house, in which the thief or thieves escaped with a large amount of jewelry and a jewelry box, valued at a combined total of over $3000.  It’s believed to have occurred at a home on Lincoln Avenue between 9 AM and 9 PM last Monday, August 26th.

A Sheldon woman’s car and a Sheldon man’s SUV were damaged in an accident on Wednesday (8/28/13) in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 2:20 PM, 86-year-old Joy Van Velzen of Sheldon was westbound in the Sheldon Family Practice Parking Lot, in a 1993 Olds. A 2006 Chevy, owned by Marvin Kamrath of Sheldon was facing eastbound in the lot.

Van Velzen was exiting the lot and started to turn toward the exit, but as she did, she struck the rear driver’s side of the Kamrath vehicle.

Van Velzen’s Olds received $2000 damage. Kamrath’s Chevy received $1200 damage.

There were no injuries reported, and no charges were filed.

An Ashton teen’s car and a Sheldon woman’s car were damaged in an accident last Thursday (8/29/13) in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 5:40 PM, 17-year-old Kayla Johnson of Ashton was eastbound on Highway 18 in a 2010 Chevy. Fifty-seven-year-old Linda Rook of Sheldon was southbound on 21st Avenue in a 2000 Buick.

Johnson was stopped for road construction traffic stopped ahead of her on 18. The traffic ahead started to move, but Johnson did not realize it immediately, according to the report. Rook, who was at the stop sign on 21st Street, thought that Johnson was letting her turn ahead of Johnson and proceeded to turn left. Midway though Rook’s turn, Johnson realized that traffic was moving, and pulled ahead. Rook’s car struck Johnson’s.

Johnson’s Chevy received $1600 damage. Rook’s Buick received $1200 damage.

There were no injuries reported.
