Sheldon Police Handle Two Accidents, Two Arrests

Sheldon PD carSheldon, Iowa — In the latest from the Sheldon Police Department, they report two accidents and two arrests.

A Sheldon woman’s car and a car owned by someone from Clarinda, Iowa were damaged in an accident on Tuesday, December 17th in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 8:30 PM, 22-year-old Jacie Getto of Ashton was driving a 1987 Chevy in the parking lot of the Second Avenue Casey’s. Twenty-year-old Alexandria Updike of Clarinda, Iowa was driving a 1999 Chevy. The car Getto was driving was owned by Hazel Sundstrom of Sheldon, and the car driven by Updike was owned by Jordan Donahue of Clarinda.

The Updike car, owned by Donahue was legally parked in front of Casey’s. Getto pulled into the parking lot and attempted to park next to it, but the report says she was going too fast for the snow-covered parking lot and lost control, skidding into the driver’s side of the car owned by Donahue.

The Chevy Getto was driving received $300 damage. The Donahue Chevy received $1200 damage.

There were no injuries reported.

A Broken Bow, Nebraska woman’s car and a Paulina man’s pickup were damaged in an accident on Monday, December 23 in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 1:35 PM, 22-year-old Tara Woodward of Broken Bow, Nebraska was southbound in the Hy-Vee Parking lot in a 2001 Pontiac. Fifty-three-year-old Mark Eckerman of Paullina was eastbound in the lot in a 2011 Ford pickup.

The police report says that Woodward told the officer that she backed up from a parking spot and started to drive forward. Eckerman told the officer that he backed up from his parking spot and didn’t see Woodward’s vehicle, and struck it.

Woodward’s Pontiac received $1500 damage. Eckerman’s pickup was not damaged.

There were no injuries reported.

The Sheldon Police arrested 25-year-old Kyle Peterson of Sheldon on Thursday, December 26th, on a charge of Driving Under Suspension. They also arrested 25-year-old Troy Duskin of Sibley on the same charge on Friday, December 27th. Both were taken into custody and transported to jail in Primghar.
